In a ceremony steeped in military tradition, Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has been conferred the rank of Honorary General of the Nepalese Army by Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel.The investiture ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Kathmandu during General Seth’s three-day official visit to Nepal. The tradition represents both history and continuity, with successive generations of military leaders maintaining the special relationship between the Indian and Nepalese armies.The ceremony was attended by Nepal’s Vice-President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, India’s Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, and senior officials from the Nepalese government and Army.Strengthening Military CooperationFollowing the ceremony, General Seth held discussions with the Chief of the Army Staff of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, at Nepal Army Headquarters. The two military leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and explored ways to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.General Seth was also scheduled to receive briefings from Nepal’s Director General Military Operations on issues of mutual interest. His engagements extended beyond military leadership. He met Ambassador Srivastava at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, with discussions focusing on ways to further strengthen the broader relationship between India and Nepal.From Military Equipment to a SaplingThe visit also featured practical gestures of cooperation. General Seth handed over military and medical equipment to the Nepal Army, reinforcing the two countries’ continuing defence partnership. At Nepal Army Headquarters, he planted a sapling, symbolising growth and continuity, and received and inspected a guard of honour.The honorary rank may have been conferred in a formal ceremony, but its significance reaches far beyond the occasion.
