16 and Already a CA: Lakshmanan Meyyappan Earns Guinness World Records Title as World’s Youngest Chartered Accountant
At an age when most teenagers are still deciding what they want to study, Lakshmanan Meyyappan had already achieved a professional milestone few manage even after years of higher education. The Indian finance professional was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant, qualifying at just 16 years and 141 days in Dubai. His record-breaking journey began shortly after completing his Class 10 board examinations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meyyappan turned his attention towards accounting and decided to pursue the ACCA qualification. What followed was an extraordinary academic sprint—but one he says was never about racing against others. From Class 10 to ACCAMeyyappan's interest in finance developed during the pandemic lockdown. His mother, who is also an ACCA, introduced him to the basics of accounting. The lessons sparked his curiosity. At 15, he began studying for ACCA after completing Class 10 and went on to finish the qualification in roughly a year. His achievement eventually earned him the Guinness World Records title. The recognition came in Dubai, where his achievement was recorded at the remarkable age of 16 years and 141 days. But for Meyyappan, the qualification was not supposed to be simply a race to collect credentials. “This milestone means a lot to me, but I have never approached qualifications as a race,” he said, emphasising that understanding finance and developing skills for the real world mattered more than speed. The Record Was Only the BeginningRather than stopping after making history, Meyyappan continued building his expertise. He went on to earn the CFA charter and is currently pursuing an MSc in Finance. He has also moved into the professional world, working as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai, where his work involves investment research, financial analysis and decision-making.His interests aren't limited to numbers and markets either. Away from finance, Meyyappan enjoys designing and building watches.Beyond the Guinness TitleMeyyappan's achievement stands out not simply because of the age at which he qualified, but because of what followed. A professional qualification became a stepping stone to deeper study, a career in financial research and continued exploration of the field. His story also challenges the conventional timeline of education. While there is no single age at which students should pursue professional qualifications, Meyyappan's journey demonstrates what can happen when an early interest is combined with focused learning and sustained curiosity. And perhaps that is the most interesting part of his record. The Guinness World Records title may have made him the world's youngest male Chartered Accountant—but for Meyyappan, it appears to be just one milestone in a much longer journey through the world of finance.
