India's Bhavani Devi Shines Again, Wins Fencing Gold in Iceland

Bhavani Devi has added another golden chapter to her remarkable fencing journey, winning the Senior Women’s Sabre Tournoi Satellite in Reykjavik, Iceland, in September 2026.The Indian Olympian produced a confident performance in the final, defeating Lithuania’s Giedre Razgute 15-7 to clinch the title. The victory marks the second Tournoi Satellite title of Bhavani Devi’s career and makes her return to Iceland particularly special.This is the very venue where her international breakthrough began. In 2017, Bhavani became the first Indian fencer to win an international gold medal at this event, defeating Great Britain’s Sarah Jane Hampson in the final. She followed that with a runner-up finish in 2018 and bronze medals in 2018 and 2019.Now, nine years after her first triumph, she is champion again.A Commanding Route to GoldBhavani entered the final four with her sights firmly set on the title. In the semifinal, she defeated Türkiye’s Emine Irmak Yucele, earning her place in the gold-medal clash.
