Andaman & Nicobar Talent Shines: Youth Win 13 Medals at IndiaSkills Regional Meet
Young participants from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have given the Union Territory a proud moment by winning 13 medals at the IndiaSkills Regional Competition (Eastern Region) held in Bhubaneswar. A team of 48 talented youth from the islands took part in the competition and competed with participants from several eastern states of India. Despite coming from a region that is geographically far from the mainland, the team performed brilliantly and brought home 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 4 Medallions of Excellence.IndiaSkills is a national platform where young people show their abilities in different technical and vocational trades. It encourages youth to develop practical skills that are important in today’s world. Competitions like these test not just knowledge but also creativity, precision, and the ability to work under pressure. The strong performance by the Andaman and Nicobar team clearly shows that the youth of the islands are full of talent and determination.Skills That Show the Islands Are Moving ForwardThe success of the Andaman and Nicobar team is also a sign of how skill training and vocational education are slowly becoming stronger in the region. Over the years, more focus has been placed on helping young people learn practical trades and technical skills that can lead to real careers.Participants from the islands competed in different skill areas and proved that they could match the standards of some of the best competitors from across eastern India. Preparing for such competitions takes months of training, practice, and guidance from teachers and trainers. Their dedication paid off when the team returned home with an impressive medal tally. What makes this achievement even more special is the journey behind it. Being a Union Territory located far from the mainland, students from the islands often have fewer opportunities and resources compared to those in larger cities. Yet, their success proves that talent is not limited by geography. With the right support and determination, young people from anywhere can rise and shine.A Step Toward National and Global OpportunitiesFor many of the medal winners, this achievement is only the beginning. The gold and silver medalists will now move forward to the IndiaSkills National Competition, which is scheduled to take place later in March 2026. At the national level, they will compete with the best participants from across India. Performing well at the national competition could open even bigger doors. The top performers may get a chance to represent India at the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, one of the largest global events that celebrates vocational excellence. Young professionals from many countries gather there to demonstrate their skills and learn from each other. For the participants from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, this journey is about more than medals. It is about gaining confidence, learning new techniques, and showing that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the country. And as these island youth move forward to bigger competitions, they carry with them not just their own ambitions, but also the pride and hopes of their entire region.
