In a gripping quarterfinal match, he triumphed 149-147 over hometown favorite Batuhan Akcaoglu, further boosting his chances of making it to his first World Cup Final. Entering the elimination rounds as the fourth seed, Priyansh's impressive journey included a narrow victory over fellow countryman Prathamesh Fuge in the third round, edging him out with a score of 149–148. Now, with an eye on improving his silver medal finish from the Shanghai World Cup, Priyansh is set to face Denmark's top-ranked Mathias Fullerton in Saturday's semifinals. Meanwhile, the team's seasoned archer, Abhishek Verma, faced an early exit in the third round, ending his season and dashing his hopes of advancing to the World Cup Final. While on a summer vacation, he unexpectedly stumbled upon the game at the Yamuna Sports Complex Archery Ground in Karkardooma, Delhi. He had no idea that in a few months, he would be sharpening his craft on the field for over twelve hours a day. He remembers attempting to win his parents over with his academic performance to be granted clearance to play the game. “I remember my initial days at the Academy when I barely knew anyone. Abhishek Verma, a gold and silver medallist at the 2014 Asian Games, whom I idolized was the first person I spoke to. He made me feel very comfortable as I sat with him in the canteen. Since that time, I have admired his humility. I also look up to his game as he delivers the number of shots he commits. He is always spot on and rarely misses a mark,” says Priyansh in one of his interviews on various news channels.    The young player started training in compound-bow archery in 2020, and within a year and a half aced the game to be able to participate in an International-level championship. He credits his coaches Lokesh Chand Pal and Ajit Kumar for guiding him throughout. At present, the young archer is preparing for the World Youth Archery Championship due to be held in Poland from Aug 5 – Aug 19, 2021. His mantra for steadying his mind before a match “Just breathe!” “During the lockdown, it became difficult to be able to practice the sport. Changing Lives Through Sports: A Tale of Inclusivity and Sportsmanship

It was in 2019 that the Toofaan Games story started, as the then-head of Nanhi Kali operations, Rohini Mukherjee, decided it was time to introduce sports to the girls. "Classrooms cannot teach you certain fundamental life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, and facing failure," the speaker stated. Sports entered the picture at this point. Approximately 1,90,000 girls who sign up for this program receive at least ten years of education, as well as an introduction to sports. These days the Toofaan Games are a yearly sporting event with four competitions. The girls under their tutelage are participating in the current edition, which began in August 2023, almost from the village level to the nationals, which are organized by the trust.Together, Lisa Murawsky and Rohini (who is currently the Head of Global Partnerships and Strategy) developed the foundation's "Sports for Life" initiative, which gave rise to these games. It is important to note that women are in complete control of the initiative—from coaching to outcomes. The movement has quickly gained momentum thanks to the Nanhi Kali program's existing infrastructure at Naandi. The young lady running the "Nanhi Kali after-school tuition centers" lives in the same neighborhood as the girls. These tutors were supposed to conduct the weekly sports drills and practices when sports were introduced.  About Sports for Life Program:  Every young girl now gets to attend one sports class per week, where they learn about menstrual health management, body movement, and nutrition in addition to playing sports. All the girls willingly participate in this enjoyable program.Another crucial lesson these girls learn is the importance of inclusivity and sportsmanship while playing. "It doesn't matter if they are good or bad at the sport; every girl learns to include everyone else," Rohini says.Overseeing the program in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, Poornima Singh collaborates with 271 sports allies and 7,856 girls. She found that the girls' desire to participate in sports was self-existent. She states, "They are ready to go to the playground and play 24 hours a day." Passionate Souls Coming Together for Making Sports Work for Women: The program's overarching goal will always be 'Sports for all,' prioritizing the participation and lifelong engagement of girls and women in sports, rather than solely promoting sporting excellence.

The Archer Who Triumphed Without Arms: Sheetal Devi's Astonishing Tale

Sheetal Devi, a 16-year-old with an indomitable spirit, has captured the world's attention by clinching three medals at the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China. Sheetal who hails from Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, was born with Phocomelia, a rare condition that left her with underdeveloped limbs. However, this did not deter her from pursuing her dreams. Sheetal's journey to becoming a celebrated para-athlete traces its roots back to her childhood days when she used to climb trees for fun. This seemingly ordinary pastime unwittingly strengthened her upper body, honed her athleticism, and drew the notice of scouts during a local event organized by the Indian Army in 2021. There was a glimmer of hope when Sheetal considered getting a prosthetic arm, but it didn't fit. Nevertheless, Sheetal's mentors and guides did not give up on her. They drew inspiration from American para-athlete Matt Stutzman, who astounded the world by shooting with his legs in the 2012 London Paralympics. Sheetal began training at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex in Katra. Her coaches, Abhilasha Chaudhary and Kuldeep Vedwan, ingeniously modified a releaser into a shoulder releaser and devised a unique string mechanism that allowed Sheetal to pull the trigger and release the arrow with her chin and mouth. Sheetal's daily regimen of archery practice evolved from 50 shots a day to a staggering 300, and her hard work paid off. She clinched a silver medal in the Para Open Nationals in Sonepat, followed by a series of gold medals and another second-place finish in the Para Games. The world took notice of Sheetal's extraordinary achievements, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating her and acknowledging her remarkable journey. Sheetal has proven that with determination and focus, no obstacle is insurmountable.
