Visakhapatnam Gets a New Spiritual Landmark: Giant 65-Foot Trishul Unveiled at Kailasagiri
A towering new symbol now rises above the hills and coastline of Visakhapatnam. At the iconic Kailasagiri hilltop, Andhra Pradesh has unveiled a gigantic 65-foot Trishul, adding a dramatic spiritual and architectural attraction to one of the state’s most visited tourist destinations.Overlooking the Bay of Bengal and illuminated against the night sky, the newly inaugurated Trishul is already drawing attention from tourists, devotees, and photography enthusiasts alike. Built by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), the massive installation is expected to become a major tourism magnet for North Andhra.A New Landmark for VizagThe giant Trishul was inaugurated on Saturday by P Narayana, Kondapalli Srinivas, and M Sribharat.Constructed at an estimated cost of nearly ₹6 crore, the project reportedly took around eight months to complete. Alongside the Trishul, a massive Damarakam structure measuring 10 feet in height and 18 feet in width has also been installed, enhancing the spiritual ambience of the hilltop destination.Built to Stand Against NatureWhat makes the structure especially remarkable is its engineering. Situated atop the windy Kailasagiri hills, the Trishul has been designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour. The enormous structure has been erected on a spacious 30-foot platform, allowing visitors to relax, take photographs, and enjoy panoramic views of Visakhapatnam city and the sea below. At night, LED lighting within the Trishul transforms the installation into a glowing beacon visible from several parts of the city, adding a striking visual element to Vizag’s skyline.Tourism officials believe the illuminated Trishul could soon become one of the most photographed attractions in Andhra Pradesh.More Than a MonumentThe project is part of a larger vision to position Visakhapatnam as a major tourism and spiritual destination.Speaking during the inauguration, Minister P Narayana said the Andhra Pradesh government under N Chandrababu Naidu is focusing heavily on tourism development to generate employment and boost economic growth.Meanwhile, MP M Sribharat revealed plans to transform Kailasagiri into a global tourism hub by integrating it with nearby attractions such as the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park and Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary. The broader vision is to create a destination where tourists can spend four to five days experiencing spirituality, nature, wildlife, and coastal tourism within a single ecosystem.Tourism Meets SpiritualityFor Visakhapatnam, already known for its beaches, hills, and scenic coastline, the giant Trishul adds another layer to the city’s identity.Tourism officials believe the project could significantly boost visitor footfall while strengthening Vizag’s reputation as one of Andhra Pradesh’s premier travel destinations. As visitors gather atop Kailasagiri to witness the towering Trishul overlooking the sea, the structure represents more than steel and lights. It stands as a blend of spirituality, engineering, tourism, and ambition — a new landmark that hopes to place Visakhapatnam firmly on India’s spiritual tourism map.
