Naya Ellis has already had a lasting impact on science and technology at the young age of 14. In addition to garnering her widespread fame, her ground-breaking creation, the WingItt watch—a device that detects strokes—has the potential to transform healthcare for a vast number of people.
A Passion Called Upon One's Own Experience ~
Naya was inspired to become an inventor for a very personal reason. Having personally witnessed her mother's health issues, she became passionate about changing things. In her first year at New Orleans' John F. Kennedy High School, she focused her scientific interest on practical fixes. Motivated by her grandmother's struggle with a stroke and equipped with her knowledge from STEM ( STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Naya set out to develop a tool that can identify strokes at an early stage and possibly save lives.
From Idea to Actuality: WingItt's Inception ~
Along with moving forward with WingItt, Ellis aims to pursue a career in medicine and become an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) once she graduates from high school. “I love the fact that you’re bringing new life into the world, that’s the coolest thing ever to me,” Ellis shared with The74. “I’m a woman helping women. It can’t get any better than that!”
Takeaway From This Success Story ~
How to Contribute To Making a Positive Impact ~ Making the world a better place might appear daunting on a grand scale. Even while it might not be possible for one individual to completely alter the world, you can positively influence things little by little every day. Spreading empowerment, compassion, and love gradually adds up and will produce noticeable change. Engaging in your community or a cause that is important to you can be an easy way to have a good effect, as can listening intently and having a positive influence on someone else's life.
