Indian boxing has punched its way to the top of the global stage once again. In the latest World Boxing Rankings released on Thursday, India received a major boost as two of its brightest stars—Jaismine Lamboria and Minakshi Hooda—secured the coveted world No. 1 positions in their respective weight categories. The achievement marks another significant chapter in India’s rise as a boxing powerhouse.
While Minakshi retained her position at the summit of the women’s 48kg division, Jaismine climbed to the top of the women’s 57kg rankings, giving Indian boxing a double reason to celebrate.
For Olympian Jaismine Lamboria, the journey to world No. 1 has been built on determination, consistency, and impressive performances on the international circuit.
The talented boxer moved to the top of the 57kg rankings after winning a silver medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia. Her performance earned valuable ranking points and helped her surpass Poland’s Julia Szeremeta to become the highest-ranked boxer in the category.
Jaismine’s rise is particularly significant as she continues to establish herself among the world’s elite fighters ahead of major global competitions. Her achievement reflects not only personal excellence but also the growing strength of Indian women’s boxing on the international stage.
While Jaismine celebrated a new milestone, Minakshi Hooda successfully defended her position as the world’s top-ranked boxer in the women’s 48kg division.
The reigning world champion and Asian Championships gold medallist has enjoyed a remarkable run of form over the past year. Her gold-winning performance at the Asian Boxing Championships in March further cemented her place at the top and showcased her dominance in the weight category.
Minakshi’s consistency has made her one of India’s most reliable performers, and her continued success is expected to play a crucial role in India's ambitions at future international events.
The rankings reveal a broader success story for Indian women’s boxing. Several Indian boxers secured top-three positions across different weight categories. Preeti Pawar climbed to world No. 3 in the 54kg division, while Priya Ghanghas achieved the same ranking in the 60kg category.
Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Pooja Rani (80kg), and Nupur (+80kg) all earned world No. 2 rankings in their respective divisions. Former world champion Nikhat Zareen maintained her place at world No. 4 in the 51kg category, while Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain was ranked seventh in the 75kg division.
Remarkably, Indian women featured in the top 10 rankings across nine of the 10 weight categories, a proof of the country's growing dominance in the sport.
The success was not limited to the women’s side. Vishvanath Suresh climbed to world No. 3 in the men’s 50kg division, while Sachin Siwach broke into the top five in the 60kg category. Abhinash Jamwal secured the eighth spot in the 65kg rankings, and Hitesh Gulia was ranked sixth in the 70kg division.
Akash entered the world’s top 10 at No. 8 in the 75kg category, while Lokesh occupied the same position in the 85kg division. Jadumani Mandengbam and Harsh Choudhary also featured among the world’s best, ranking seventh and tenth respectively in their weight classes.
The latest World Boxing Rankings are based on performances at major international tournaments held between July 2024 and May 2026, including World Boxing Cup events. These rankings will play a crucial role in determining seedings for upcoming competitions such as the Asian Games 2026 and the Commonwealth Games.
With two world No. 1 boxers and a remarkable number of athletes among the global top 10, India enters the next phase of international competition with confidence and momentum.
