Indian racing star Kush Maini produced one of his finest drives of the 2026 Formula 2 season, securing an impressive third-place finish in the Feature Race at Silverstone, Britain, on Sunday. The podium marks Maini's first Feature Race podium of the year and another significant milestone in his journey towards Formula 1.
Representing ART Grand Prix, the 25-year-old from Bengaluru showcased exceptional pace, composure and racecraft against some of the world's most promising young drivers on one of motorsport's most iconic circuits.
Maini entered the weekend in strong form after qualifying third for the Feature Race. Under Formula 2's reverse-grid format, he started eighth in Saturday's Sprint Race but fought his way through the field to finish fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium. That performance set the tone for Sunday's main event.
Launching brilliantly from third on the grid, Maini made a sensational start and surged into the lead before the opening corner. He controlled the race for a significant period, displaying excellent tyre management and consistent pace while keeping the chasing pack at bay.
Following the mandatory pit stop, the Indian driver found himself locked in an intense battle with Formula 2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov. Despite relentless pressure, Maini defended strongly before eventually crossing the finish line in third to secure a hard-earned podium.
The result is particularly significant as Feature Races are regarded as the true test of pace, strategy and endurance in Formula 2. While Maini has previously won three Sprint Races during his Formula 2 career, he is still chasing his maiden Feature Race victory.
According to media reports, Maini's Silverstone heroics have lifted him to sixth place in the Formula 2 Drivers' Championship with 63 points. He now trails the top five by just six points, putting him firmly in contention as the season enters its crucial second half.
Reflecting on his performance, Maini said that he was really happy with the way the weekend has gone and thanked everyone back home for their support.
Adding to the celebrations, Kush's elder brother Arjun Maini also enjoyed success in Europe by finishing third in Race 1 of the DTM Championship at Germany's Norisring, before narrowly missing another podium with a fourth-place finish in the rain-affected second race.
Together, the Maini brothers delivered a memorable weekend for Indian motorsport, highlighting the country's growing presence on the global racing stage.
