The Indian women’s kabaddi team has done it again! India defeated fierce rivals Iran 37-34 in a gripping final at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, clinching the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The victory capped an unbeaten campaign for India and saw the team successfully defend its Asian Games women’s kabaddi title.

It was also India’s third gold medal of the Games, following the women’s cricket team’s triumph and the shooting gold won by Suruchi Singh Phogat and Kamaljeet in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.

India Take Early Control

Unlike some of their more comfortable victories earlier in the tournament, the final was a battle from the opening whistle. India managed to take the first half 22-16, using 16 out points, three bonus points and an All-Out to establish a six-point advantage.

Iran, however, stayed firmly in the contest. Seven bonus points helped them remain within striking distance, ensuring India could not afford to relax. The Indian side eventually forced the first All-Out of the match, giving themselves valuable momentum before the break.

Iran Fight Back

The second half brought a dramatic twist. Iran came charging back and outscored India 18-15, cutting the deficit to just one point at 27-26 after securing an All-Out. The pressure was suddenly on India. But the Indian players responded when it mattered most.

Sanju Devi produced a crucial Super Raid that shifted the momentum back towards India. Captain Pushpa Rana then delivered an All-Out of her own, restoring some breathing room for the defending champions. Pooja added to Iran’s troubles by taking advantage of uncertainty in the Iranian defence and stretching India’s advantage further.

Iran continued to fight until the final whistle, producing a Super Tackle and adding 14 out points in the second half. But India held their composure and protected their lead.

Another Golden Chapter for India

The 37-34 victory means India retains their Asian Games women’s kabaddi crown, extending their gold medal run in the competition. And the golden celebrations may not stop here. India’s men’s kabaddi team is also set to face Iran in the final, with an opportunity to complete a golden double.

For now, the women have delivered a thrilling victory—and another gold medal for India at Aichi-Nagoya.
