In a landmark initiative blending compassion with opportunity, Air India and the Indian Army have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) aimed at transforming the lives of Veer Naris (war widows) and their families.
The collaboration is not just about jobs; it is about restoring confidence and creating sustainable futures for families who have already sacrificed so much for the nation.
Through this partnership, Air India has committed to offering structured vocational training and targeted employment opportunities through its sister company, Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS). The initiative seeks to create long-term livelihood pathways while strengthening the connection between corporate India and the armed forces community.
Under the programme, Air India plans to recruit up to 20 Veer Naris and up to 40 children of Veer Naris for various airport operations roles. These include customer services, load and control, and ramp operations, sectors that are critical to the smooth functioning of airports across the country.
For many families, this initiative offers a chance to rebuild lives through meaningful employment and professional growth. The programme will also provide industry-aligned vocational training designed to equip candidates with practical skills and workplace readiness. By combining training with direct employment opportunities, the initiative hopes to create a strong, job-ready workforce capable of thriving in the aviation and hospitality sectors.
Air India described the partnership as part of a larger mission focused on inclusive growth and community resilience. P Balaji, Group Head – Governance, Risk, Compliance and Corporate Affairs at Air India, highlighted the deeper purpose behind the collaboration. He said that Air India’s collaboration with the Indian Army reflects a shared purpose to contribute to a broader nation-building effort.
One of the most impactful aspects of the collaboration is its focus on strengthening vocational training infrastructure in Army-supported ASHA (Army Special Help Association) Schools. These schools support the education and welfare of specially abled children of serving soldiers, veterans and civilians living in cantonment areas.
As part of the initiative, vocational laboratories will be established in 25 ASHA schools across the country. Ten schools have already been included in the pilot phase, while 15 more schools will be added in the next stage of expansion. The training facilities will introduce students to a wide range of practical and creative skills, including photography, music, sports, performing arts, painting, beauty and wellness, cooking and hospitality, tailoring, boutique work, and electrical and technical training.
The collaboration between Air India and the Indian Army arrives at a time when conversations around social responsibility and inclusive development are gaining momentum in India. By investing in skill development and employability for Veer Naris and their families, the initiative sets a strong example of how corporations and institutions can work together to create meaningful social impact.
More importantly, it sends a powerful message that the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families will not be forgotten and that empowerment can become the strongest tribute to courage.
