While most children his age are busy with school assignments and hobbies, Divam Saraswat is already building worlds beyond Earth through his writing.
The 12-year-old Grade 8 student from Jaipur has emerged as one of India’s youngest science-fiction authors with the launch of his debut full-length novel, Stranger from the Stars, at the World Book Fair 2026 in New Delhi.
Spanning over 50,000 words, the novel marks a remarkable achievement for someone so young. But for Divam, writing is not new. Fueled by curiosity, imagination, and a fascination with understanding people and the world around him, he has been writing stories from a very early age.
Before venturing into a full-fledged novel, he had already authored three shorter works—a science fiction story, a poetry book on nature and a short story on a cricket player.
Now, with Stranger from the Stars, the young writer is capturing attention for his maturity of thought and creative storytelling.
At the heart of Divam’s novel lies an unusual yet deeply meaningful perspective—Earth seen through the eyes of an alien researcher. The story follows a peaceful extraterrestrial visitor who arrives on Earth driven by curiosity and a desire to understand humanity. As the alien studies human behaviour, emotions, relationships, and scientific progress, things take a dramatic turn with the discovery of a mysterious shard possessing unknown powers.
What begins as exploration soon spirals into misunderstanding. Ordinary actions are mistaken for threats, fear begins to spread, and tensions rise toward the possibility of intergalactic conflict.
Through adventure, suspense, humour, and emotion, the novel explores how fear of the unknown often creates division and conflict. More importantly, it highlights empathy, communication, and understanding as the strongest bridges between different worlds.
Written especially for young readers, the book encourages children to think critically, ask questions, and embrace perspectives different from their own.
Divam’s interests stretch far beyond fiction alone. He is deeply fascinated by science, space exploration, climate awareness, geopolitics, history, and human behaviour, subjects that subtly shape his storytelling. He approaches ideas not with fixed assumptions but with curiosity-driven thinking. That openness reflects strongly in his writing style, where questions often matter more than easy answers.
His storytelling journey began with short stories and poems before gradually evolving into longer narratives. Over time, he sharpened his ability to build characters, explore emotions, and create imaginative settings.
Despite his growing achievements, Divam continues balancing writing with school life, public speaking, debating, and learning about the world around him.
What makes Divam’s work stand out is not just his age but the message behind his writing. Through his stories and interactions, he encourages young people to express themselves confidently and embrace imagination without fear of judgment. In an era dominated by screens and fast-moving content, Divam’s achievement also highlights the enduring power of books and storytelling. His work reminds readers that imagination can become a tool for understanding the world more deeply.
The encouraging response to Stranger from the Stars, now available globally on Amazon India in paperback and Kindle formats, suggests that readers are connecting strongly with both the story and the young mind behind it.
For many aspiring writers, publishing a novel is a lifelong dream. Divam Saraswat has achieved it before even entering high school. Yet this appears to be only the beginning. With his passion for storytelling, interest in science and global affairs, and determination to spark meaningful conversations through fiction, the young Jaipur author is already proving that age is no barrier to creativity.
As Stranger from the Stars reaches readers across the globe, Divam’s journey stands as an inspiring reminder that some of the biggest ideas can come from the youngest voices.
