For many students, not getting into their dream course can feel like the end of the road. For Spandhana I. from Bengaluru, it turned out to be the beginning of an inspiring journey that would earn her three gold medals and make her the top-performing physiotherapy graduate of her batch. The daughter of an auto driver, Spandhana has emerged as a shining example of perseverance, hard work, and the power of embracing unexpected opportunities.
This year, she graduated from Padmashree Institute of Physiotherapy, affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), with three gold medals in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme, an achievement that has brought pride to her family and inspiration to countless students.
Born and raised in Bengaluru with roots in Karnataka's Mandya district, Spandhana always believed in aiming high. Yet even she did not anticipate the scale of her success. She said that she hoped to receive maybe one gold medal but never imagined she would graduate with three. She said that it came as a big surprise and made her very happy.
Her achievement will be celebrated at the 28th annual convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. According to a report in The Times of India, the convocation is scheduled to be held on June 16 at the Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad International Convention Centre at GKVK, Bengaluru.
Spandhana's journey into physiotherapy was not part of her original plan. Like many aspiring medical students, she dreamt of pursuing an MBBS degree. However, circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic altered her path, leading her to choose physiotherapy instead.
What initially seemed like an alternative soon became a passion. As she immersed herself in the field, she discovered the growing importance of physiotherapy in modern healthcare. The profession's role in rehabilitation, recovery, and improving quality of life inspired her to give her best.
Behind every remarkable achievement lies a story of support. Spandhana comes from a modest family that placed immense value on education. Her father, Indresh M., works tirelessly as an auto driver, while her mother, Girija, manages the household and also runs a small provision store. Her elder sister is a software engineer.
Despite financial constraints, the family ensured that Spandhana had every opportunity to pursue her studies. She credits much of her success to her parents' sacrifices, encouragement, and the support she received from her teachers and college mentors.
Spandhana is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Physiotherapy and Neurosciences at Ramaiah Medical College, with aspirations of building a meaningful career in healthcare. Her academic excellence has been a consistent feature throughout her journey. She secured a CET rank in the 200s without attending separate coaching classes, relying instead on classroom learning and disciplined preparation.
Today, her story stands as a powerful reminder that success is not always about where you begin, but how determined you are to keep moving forward.
