India’s para-athletes are making the nation proud at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Japan, combining record-breaking performances with inspiring displays of skill and determination. With 103 medals, including 27 golds, 33 silvers and 43 bronzes, India has crossed the 100-medal mark and climbed to fourth place in the standings, continuing its impressive rise in para-sports.
Held from October 18 to 24 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the fifth edition of the Asian Para Games brings together athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees across 18 sports. India is competing in 11 disciplines, with several Paralympic champions leading the country's challenge.
India opened its medal account with a remarkable one-two finish in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. Mona Agarwal clinched gold, while fellow Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara secured silver.

India's success has extended beyond athletics and shooting. Para-archery sensation Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag won silver in the women's compound doubles, while Sheetal also secured gold in the women's individual and mixed compound events.
Kasthuri Rajamani added another silver medal in para powerlifting, showcasing India's growing strength across disciplines.
Another memorable milestone came when Sandeep Kumar won the men's 400m T64 event, securing India's 100th medal at the Games. The achievement underlined the depth of talent in the Indian contingent.
India arrived in Japan following its best-ever Asian Para Games performance at Hangzhou in 2023, where the country won 111 medals, comprising 29 golds, 31 silvers and 51 bronzes. India finished fifth overall, surpassing its previous record of 72 medals at Jakarta in 2018.
At Aichi-Nagoya, China leads the standings, followed by Japan and Uzbekistan, with India in fourth place.
With its athletes continuing to excel across events, India's latest medal haul reflects the growing reach of para-sports in the country and the determination of athletes who continue to raise the bar on the international stage.
