The Indian Air Force turned 94 on October 8, marking the occasion with a grand ceremonial parade and an impressive display of its combat strength at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The celebrations brought together the three service chiefs, senior military officials and several former IAF chiefs, adding to the significance of the day. Air Chief Marshal A P Singh arrived at the parade venue in a vintage car from the 1960s, while three helicopters flew past in the traditional ‘Dhwaj’ formation.
The spectacle offered a striking blend of the IAF’s history and its modern capabilities.
The Hindon tarmac became a display of some of the IAF’s most important platforms. Among the fighter aircraft on static display were the Rafale, Su-30 MKI and Jaguar. The helicopter fleet was represented by the LCH Prachand and ALH Dhruv.
Critical weapon systems and air defence equipment were also showcased, giving visitors and personnel a glimpse into the technology that supports India’s aerial defence.
According to a report in The News Mill, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh addressed the gathering and stated that the IAF’s greatest strength is not simply its aircraft, weapons or technology, but its Air Warriors. He highlighted the rapidly changing global security environment, describing it as one marked by uncertainty, evolving conflicts and complex geopolitical challenges.
Singh also recalled the IAF’s recent operational experience during Operation Sindoor, highlighting the speed of its deployment and its combat and air-defence capabilities. He described the force through three words: “Infallible, Impervious and Precise.”
Since its early years, the IAF has grown into a sophisticated force responsible for protecting India’s vast airspace and supporting operations in times of conflict and crisis. Air Force Day is therefore more than a military ceremony. It is also a celebration of the men and women who remain prepared around the clock to defend the skies.
The IAF’s motto, “Touch the Sky with Glory,” captures that enduring spirit. As the force enters its 95th year, its journey combines decades of tradition with an increasingly technology-driven future, while the people behind the machines remain at the heart of its strength.
